In an effort to jumpstart my return to the world of library blogging, I thought a quick perusal of the relevant blogs would help to reacquaint me with those issues of which, for the past year, I have remained resolutely and blissfully ignorant. Hmm, it appears that according to US News and World Report, librarianship is a Hot Job for 2006. Well, that is, as long as you’re not particularly worried about finding a job at all, or whether said job pays you enough to keep a roof over your head. Next!
It appears there is currently a lot of Sturm und Drang over something called “Library 2.0” (a term I had thankfully never heard until three days ago.) I decided to do a little searching in an effort to familiarize myself with the background and philosophical basis behind this concept, and read a few articles…or tried, anyway. My eyes glazed over in thirty seconds flat. Hmm, this is not going so well…
Alright, here’s something interesting! A certain US Senator is writing a children’s book:
Sen. Ted Kennedy, and his Portuguese Water Dog, Splash, his co-protagonist in “My Senator and Me: A Dogs-Eye View of Washington, D.C.” Scholastic Inc. will release the book in May.
Ummm…what? I’m sorry, did I just read that Ted Kennedy’s book will contain a character named Splash?
Oh…my…gawd…must…not…make…Chappaquiddick joke…
Alright, so we are not off to a rousing start here. Perhaps we should shelve the library talk for another day. It’s clear that one needs to ease into this process slowly after such a long layoff. Besides, there’s plenty of other interesting stuff to talk about. For instance, did you know that, when one uses Wordpress as blogging software, in order to be able to edit any of the web page templates, the permissions for each relevant page on the server must be set to… (wait for it, wait for it)...666. How awesome is that?
Three more hours until the rugrats are dismissed and I can crank up some BlöödHag.
