Asteroid to Triceratops: “LOOK UP.”

04 May

Yesterday, a friend and former coworker, who now works in a college library, blogged about her frustration at her colleague’s seeming lack of interest in a presentation she did about blogs and RSS and wikis. She was annoyed that they exhibited no curiosity at all in the use of online technologies to improve their level of service to their students and increase the profile of the library.

While I am already on the record as loathing the term “Library 2.0” as a vague, meaningless, confusing, marketing buzzword and a desperate attempt to make libraries appear hip, I nonetheless think it is important for libraries to keep up on technological trends and incorporate them into their daily service. Why? Because libraries are going to become extinct if they don’t.
