We Love You So, Gutsy Gibbon

03 Nov

This afternoon, when I first logged on to my laptop, an icon at the top of the screen told me that a newer version of Ubuntu was available. I clicked to begin the upgrade, and in about two hours, an entire operating system had downloaded and installed itself, complete with updated versions of all my drivers and software. One restart was required to complete the installation, after which the laptop continued to work like a charm – no crashes, no bugs, no programs that suddenly didn’t work. And it was all completely, utterly, 100% free. No licenses, no registrations, no “validations,” none of that stupid bullshit.

Then I fired up Mozilla to browse the web, there to chortle at the latest news about the ongoing clusterfuck that is Windows Vista.

Turn away from the Dark Side, people. Come over to the light. Things are beautiful over here, they really are. The software is smaller, faster, easier to use and update, and most of all, free.

You have nothing to lose except the 26,000 Windows hotfixes you’ll be downloading in the next year.
