So We’re Told This is the Golden Age
11 Nov
Today, as we observe Veteran’s Day, it’s instructive to consider how this holiday came about in the first place. It was originally known as Armistice Day, in honor of the cessation of hostilities at the end of World War I. After four long, brutal years of horrific trench warfare and over 10 million deaths, the victors were bound and determined to redraw the map in such a way that it could never happen again.
The irony, of course, is that the Allies’ efforts not only led directly to another global war, but also sowed the seeds for the colossal geopolitical clusterfuck in which we currently find ourselves.
