It Begins…
In honor of tonight’s Game 1 of the NBA Finals, and the revitalization of pro basketball’s most storied rivalry, I present to you The Greatest Moment In Any NBA Game Ever. Enjoy.
My favorite part is when the normally blithely clueless Laker fans manage to tear themselves away from their lattes and celebrity-watching long enough to chant “Boston Sucks!” for roughly twenty seconds. Jesus, what a bunch of pansies. If a Laker had clotheslined a Celtic player at the Garden, full cups of beer, food, and possibly human waste would be raining down on the LA bench, and they’d need an armed escort to get out of the arena unharmed.
Truth be told, I don’t actually expect this series to match the classic 80’s LA-Boston matchups in length or happy result. LA clearly has the best player, a younger, deeper, more athletic team, a huge advantage in coaching, and five fewer games of playoff wear and tear on their legs. I’d be shocked if the Celtics pull this one off.
But still, it would be nice to see them win, and that smug sneer wiped off Kobe’s face once and for all…
UPDATE: Well, that was good. But this is not. Paul Pierce at anything less than 100% spells almost certain doom for the C’s.
